Fruits Basket

I’ve finally broken down and read all the way through Fruits Basket 11.  I can’t believe I like it.  I actually find Tohru’s obliviousness ENDEARING.  I’m not quite sure how this happened.  I’m completely convinced by the characters, and find myself hating Akito as much as Kyo and Yuki do.

I do have one question, though.  Why is it that Momiji’s name is spelled two different ways?  Momiji and Momitchi?  Is one a nickname or something?

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac

I  Nny.  Although admittedly a rather late-comer to the glory that is JTHM, I have no less enthusiasm for him.  Jhonen Vasquez is a genius of unprecidented proportions for having the ability (and the fortitude) to say what he did through Nny and Nail Bunny and the Doughboys.

If you’ve never heard of JTHM, I suggest picking up the Director’s Cut, available (for certain) on Amazon.  And I picked mine up at Barnes and Noble, so you can probably find it there, too.  The off-shoot of JTHM, Squee, is also entertaining, but not nearly as well-crafted as the original series.  Even the nonsense that Noodle spits is in some ways sensical in the context of what Nny’s been thinking and doing in the previous pages.  And the fact that I can make that leap of logic either makes me a genius or absolutely insane.  I’m not sure which.  After all, it is a fine line.

I’m not normally one for senseless violence, but what Nny has to say about conformity and human decency is brought home much more clearly through your sympathy with Nny and his plight than anything else.  And really, who doesn’t want to kill someone on occasion?  This is the best therapy for that impulse I’ve ever come across.  It’s so…creative!  And if you imagine whoever it is in place of the nameless person Nny is currently carving up, you feel MUCH better afterwards.  At least, I do.  ^_^  But I may just be a tad sadistic.

Java

Okay, I just lost this entire post, and I’m NOT going to re-type the whole lot of it.  I just won’t do it.

Suffice to say I’m having issues learning Java.  If you can help, especially with the whole jargon/concept bit, I’d be most appreciative.

Alright, I’ll admit it…

I’m a fangirl.

I’m a shipping, squeeing fangirl.

Definitions:  Fangirl, noun.  A female who is adamantly attached to various fictional characters from film, novels, or comics.

Shipper, noun.  A person, usually female, who is VERY insistent on a particular relationship in a given fictional story.  The term is derived from the ’ship’ portion of relationship.

Squee, verb.  To squeal in a high-pitched, overly-excited way about something inconsequential, usually related to a fangirl’s character(s) of choice, but can also involve anything that is small, absurdly cute, or exciting.

I will say that I’m not rabid.  I’ve been through and gotten over that phase of fangirliness.  However, I do own the fanguide for my favorite series in both hardcover and paperback, along with the limited edition box set, a figurine of my favorite character from that series, a plushie, a calendar, two keychains, two t-shirts, several posters, a wall scroll, and the soundtrack.  I’m a staunch shipper for the series, too.  And every time I see Episode 9, I squee.

Why am I admitting this?  Probably to get it off my mind so I can go on to do more important things.  Like update the links in my previous posts.  Am I going to divulge the secrets of my series and ship of choice?  No way.  That’d be too incriminating.  I will say it’s Japanese, it was originally released in 1999, and the manga artist worked on another anime as well.  And my ship is basically fanon for the series.

Definition: Canon, adjective.  Used to describe something that is explicitly stated in the show/film/comic/novel.  See also, Fanon, (fan-on) a word used to describe something that’s been so well-documented by fans of the piece that it might as well be canon.
