Another Rant

+twitch, twitch+

Common sense would dictate that if one does not know the basic material undrlying a theory, then one should not claim to understand the theory, ne?  Oh, how I wish I could say more.  Alas it is not to be.  In an effort to keep my head attached to my body for at least a bit longer, I cannot let loose with a true tirade as much as I would like to.

True ignorance is rarely seen in today’s society.  There is, of course, lack of education; however, this does not constitute ignorance.  True ignorance is when one is confronted with a subject and refuses, willingly, to comprehend it.  I can’t stand ignorance.  And I especially can’t stand ignorance from those who should not be ignorant.  There is no excuse for true ignorance.  Lack of education I can forgive.  Lack of information I can forgive.  Lack of intelligence I can forgive.  But I cannot and will not forgive ignorance.  I refuse.

There.  That’s as much as I dare to say.  I do feel a bit better now.  ^_^

RANT!!! WATCH IT!!!

Okay.  I totally do NOT want to seem like a hypocrite here.  I do know that all genre writing is equally snubbed by ‘literary’ minds.  HOWEVER, I have something against tired plotlines and predictable dialogue of historical romances, better known as ‘boddice rippers.’

I’ve never actually read any because I know exactly how they all go.  Exactly like Pride and Prejudice, except that she gets the man in the end.  +gags+  Jane Austen has credibility because she CREATED the genre.  Everything else just sort of…….copied the success.  And it doesn’t help that romance novels are formulaic and INCREDIBLY predictable no matter what sub-genre they are.  Even the comedic romances, which are usually better than the ’serious’ ones have a formula they follow.

And whatever happened to the normally proportioned human being?  Where is it in this genre?  Nowhere.  I’ve yet to see a normal-looking person in a romance novel.  They are all raving beauties or tall, dark and handsome.  It makes me sick.  And what if you don’t LIKE them tall, dark and handsome?  What if the reader prefers short, bald and ugly?  There have to be some!  I’d LOVE to read a book about an ugly main character.  Actually, I have.  It’s called Sir Apropos of Nothing.  A FANTASY novel.  And one I also recommend, and will detail later on.  And, honestly, I can’t think of a single romance novel that’s recommended reading on ANY reading list.  They have to make up their own awards just so they’re not totally ignored.

AND!  If regular romance wasn’t bad enough, now there’s ‘inspirational romance’ wich is a Christian sub-genre.  So basically, the two don’t have sex until AFTER they’re married.  +rolls eyes+  Puh-lease.  If I wanted to read about two people getting to know each other, I’d read something that had an actual PLOT too.  Oi.

Okay.  I think I’ve gotten this off my chest now.  I’ll go find out some things about Sir Apropos now.  ^_^

Internet Connection Woes

I’m so upset about my internet connection right now.  It just DIES on me for no apparent reason.  And I have to input the connection keys every time I restart my computer.  That is not normal.  And if I turn my computer on if it’s been off for a couple days, the stupid thing can’t find the zero drive.  Like, the hard drive.  I think my computer is dying.  I want a new one, but can’t afford it.  I wonder if I bring in my tower to the school if they could fix it for me?  I might wanna find out.  I don’t think my mother wants to admit that my computer is dying.  She never believes me when I tell her that something isn’t right.  I know that new technology isn’t always the answer.  I really should try to fix whatever is wrong with this thing.  But I’m afraid that would involve completely re-writing my hard drive.  That scares the crap out of me.

Well, it’s not like I didn’t have to do that with my old computer.  I am NOT a happy camper at this moment.

 Ergh.

CAUTION! RANT AHEAD!

I would like to know when it was decided that librarians had to be ‘appropriateness’ filters for our youth.  Isn’t that the parents’ job?  Oh, wait, I forgot.  Parents hardly do their job anymore, so I guess you have to get paid before you’ll take care of kids.

I am NOT saying that all parents do a bad job.  In fact, this rant is probably more aimed at the circumstances that have arisen creating families that have no time for parenting.  And what the heck happened to responsibility?  HELLO!  If you don’t have a stable job, are addicted to some kind of illegal substance (or a legal one), or have no concept of the time and commitment it takes to raise a child, DON’T HAVE ONE!  Condoms are NOT that expensive!  And they give them away for FREE at Planned Parenthood!  No excuses!  I’m sick and tired of seeing kids every day that are not being cared for properly.  I’m even more tired of the women who ‘accidentally’ have a baby.  I’m sorry.  Did our mothers go through women’s lib for nothing?  Honestly, we don’t have to burn our bras (and honestly not wearing one would be uncomfortable anyway…), but we DO have to maintain a level of responsibility to our freedom.  After all, freedom without limits is anarchy.  And although an interesting concept, anarchy in practice is not really practical.

The whole mess is a self-perpetuating cycle of poor parenting leading to poor decisions by today’s young adults.  And they are the very near future of our country.  And that frightens me.

Obviously, there are some exceptions to the sweeping generalizations I’ve made here.  I am aware of this.  However, this IS a rant, and you were warned.
